Kin Kitchen: Just Another Recipe App?
The WIIFM
In my personal opinion, the first step to building any application is determining the viability of its purpose. In other words, why am I building this?
Is it something to enjoy for yourself? Is it a tool that makes your life easier? Is it a tool that makes other people’s lives easier?
Every project you work on has to encompass a WIIFM — “What’s In It For Me?”
Most of the time, the WIIFM is your paycheck from the company you work for. But sometimes, the WIIFM is something that isn’t tangible. It’s a sense of relief, a sense of accomplishment, or simply creating a tool that makes your life easier.
My WIIFM
For Kin Kitchen, the WIIFM is more than the possibility of an extremely successful mobile application that could bring me tangible wealth (but that would be nice). It is about the community that I love to gather with and serve.
At its very core, Kin Kitchen is a concept designed to bring communities together in one of the most welcoming ways possible, with dignity and respect for everyone’s personal choices and needs.
The WIIFM is the gatherings we have where people are able to immediately see the recipe when they find something they love.
It’s the homesick husband and wife serving in the military who can get Grandma’s prized recipe and have a taste of home.
It’s the kids’ sports team or church youth group that can build a fundraiser and raise money through a community of cooks who bring together flavors from around the world.
More Than Recipes
I want this app to be successful because I believe it can bring communities, families, and followers closer together in a way that has yet to be seen through an app for sharing recipes.
Kin Kitchen isn’t just about finding something to cook. It’s about the people we cook for, the recipes we pass down, and the communities we build around the table.
